Security Forum of the Southern Caucasus”. The conference was co-organized by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Security Forum of the Southern Caucasus and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.
USA-Azerbaijan: State of the PartnershipThe conference, organized by the Jamestown Foundation and the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace on November 9, 2010 was held to discuss the matter of “State of the partnership.” Participants comprised of Ambassador Richard Morningstar, the U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy, Zbigniew Brzezinski, the former U.S. President’s advisor with dozens of American analysts on Azerbaijan, as well as a number of Azerbaijani experts and Elkhan Nuriyev, the director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Conference entitled “Media in Democratic Society: International and Local Experience”On March 12, 2010, in Baku the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the International Working Group on Application of Human Rights held a conference on “Media in Democratic Society: International and Local Experience”. The moderator of the conference was the member of the International Working Group on Application of Human Rights, Judge of Belgian Constitutional Court Jean-Paul Murman.
Impediments to Security in the South Caucasus: Current Realities and Future Prospects for Regional DevelopmentThe IISS in partnership with the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAM) on Friday 20th November convened a conference in Baku, Azerbaijan on “Impediments to Security in the South Caucasus”. The event brought together over 200 delegates including parliamentarians, members of the presidential administration, the diplomatic community, international organizations and international and local experts. The conference’s three plenary sessions and working group’s discussions were widely featured in the local and regional media. The conference sought to generate policy-relevant analysis for the resolution of entrenched conflicts in the South Caucasus, including those between Russia and Georgia, and Azerbaijan and Armenia over the disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh. Another focal point of the conference was the region’s importance to energy security and the energy supply infrastructure serving wider international markets. The role and interests of major powers surrounding the region were also addressed in detail.
Preventing and Managing Conflicts in Energy and Other Natural Resource Investment RelationsOn May 13, 2009, Dr. Elkhan Nuriyev, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies, gave a key note speech at the conference on “Preventing and Managing Conflicts in Energy and Other Natural Resources Investment Relations” held at Columbia University in New York. During his presentation, Dr. Elkhan Nuriyev provided illustrations and explanations of the reasons why Azerbaijan has been pursuing a balanced foreign policy and talked about greater cooperation in the region and globally, to bring prosperity to all countries of the region – the formula for a win-win solution to the present tensions.
Azerbaijan and the European Union: New Directions for Strategic PartnershipGermany was represented by the special representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany for Eastern Europe, the South Caucasus and Central Asia, and members of the German parliament. Azerbaijan was represented by government officials and political scientists.
