Center for Strategic Studies hosted a presentation ceremony of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Special Report, titled “World Energy Outlook 2011.” Presentation of the Report by the vice-president of IEA Director of Global Energy Dialogue Mr. Ulrich Benterbusch took place on 2nd of December 2011 at the Conference Hall of the Center for Strategic Studies.
Mr. Benterbusch presented the outcome of the World Energy Outlook (WEO) 2011, released on November 9, 2011, outlining the latest insights to global energy markets, data and policy developments and latest energy demand and supply projections for various future scenarios.
The WEO 2011 analyses some of the most pressing issues faced by energy world, such as implications of a possible delay in oil and gas sector investments and a rapid slowdown in the use of nuclear power, the role of coal in an emissions constrained world, challenges in meeting climate change goals, the scale of fuel subsidies and support for renewable energy and investments required to provide energy to the world’s poor. Another important highlight of this year’s
WEO is a special focus Russia’s energy prospects and their implications for global markets, similar to the special chapter on the Caspian Region in last year’s WEO, major outcomes of which will also be included in his presentation. Mr. Benterbusch also analyzed the energy efficiency policy of Caspian state and stated that Azerbaijan is well positioned in terms of energy efficiency policy than other littoral states.
